This is years after your upload so I'm unsure that you'll see this but "small" actions or influencing just one community IS changing the world. Some people are blessed to be in a position where they can affect great change across many different peoples but it's also a blessing to be in a position like this where you work and grow alongside people in need. Time is the only one who can tell us how our actions will affect the people we meet and the places we live but I have no doubt based on what you have shared that all those lives you touched are in a much better position themselves to affect positive change in their own lives and the lives of those around them If that isn't changing the world in a meaningful and substantive way, I don't know what is Thank you for sharing, this is inspiring and very informative, and learning about your experience may very well change the path I walk as well. Thank you again for all you've done in the lives you've touched

The application process and waiting time 40 years ago was the same as you described for your application. Key to success is demonstrating a willingness to stick it out for 2 years. Peace Corps is always looking for math and science majors and folks with business skills. Don’t be afraid to apply even if you are out of college for a number of years. My group was mostly in their late 20s to late 30s. Peace Corps changed my outlook on life and set in the direction of a global career. I still keep up with my host family…yes, from 45 years ago. The toughest job I ever loved!

i am so glad i found this video. i have been wanting to volunteer in africa since i was 16. now, being halfway through my junior year of college, i see that this is truly an opportunity. i will graduate with my degree in prek-5 education in 2025 at 20 years old. rather than settling down right away, i would love to travel somewhere new and use the skills i have acquired - i feel i would grow much more as a person. however, i am family oriented so i have some hesitation and i also struggle with being independent. but, your video has really helped me lean toward a decision!! thank you :)

Tasmania's Mount Ossa in Australia was epic, scary and definitely one of the best things I've done.. alone! The Overland track is a 6day hike with each night in your tent or you can use the permanent camp huts. You are totally self sufficient in case of inclement weather. And basically throughout each day you can do little side trips eg a 30min walk to a look out or waterfall etc with a day pack leaving your big pack on the ground at the start point. So on this day I hiked for 3 hours from camp, did Mount Ossa (EPIC rock scrambling!) which was a FIVE HOUR round trip, picked up my (now VERY heavy feeling 20kg pack) and hiked for another hour to camp with a blissful rock pool and waterfall. This has given me the gumption to do Kili. I'd love to do the Lemosho route and plan to in 3 months. Wish me luck! And thank you for this video :) Keep adventuring everyone ;) Amy

Thank you so much for these videos! Two years later and they are still blessing people like me who are ready to make a radical change in their lives. It took a brain tumor and finding my faith for me to wake up and see that chasing money and material things no longer satisfied and mean nothing in the end. Not sure if I physically could handle going overseas, but the peace corps is something I would love to do if given the opportunity! If not, I will continue to serve in my church and more locally. Thank you again for sharing your experience and I pray God continues to richly bless you! 🙏
